I will be so glad when we move house, as the one thing right now that is really annoying, is our outside bathroom. I know it's common in UK houses, (especially the older ones) to have a outside toilet, but in my house, it's the only toilet full stop. Below is a plan of part of the ground floor of my house:
As you can see, the outhouse is where the only existing toilet resides, which means: If you want a tiddle, you have to go through the kitchen and into the outhouse to get to the loo. However, originally, these houses did not have the bathrooms as they are now; instead, there was a little brick shack at the end of the yard, which was the toilet and for a bath, there was a tin bath in front of the fire. Then someone in the 60's, came up with the idea of building four walls round the brick shack, then taking away the shack itself and building an outhouse, like the one that stands there today.
Though some of my neighbours have come up with a good idea and have built a bathroom upstairs. The house next door and the derelict house at the end both have a bathroom upstairs, but next door have removed the original downstairs bathroom completely. What annoys me, is when it is cold, or in the middle of the night, you have to traipse all the way downstairs, for either a wee or a number two and it's what you would call extremely "inconvenient" to do this in the middle of the night. Of course, it probably is like this because the Landlord can't be arsed to build a 2nd bathroom, so we have to go to the freezing hell hole instead. It does have heating in there, but because it is such a large room, it makes little difference.
So to sum it up: When visiting our bathroom, make sure you either wear your thermals or get a hair dryer to warm the seat; as there is one word for our bathroom: BLOODY COLD!
Oh, I also wanted to post this music video, which I think is brilliant. It is very relaxing and is by Enigma and Enya. The track is called "Return to Innocence" and is a song I just cannot get out my head. I love the lyrics of the song and I have been an Enya fan for years as it is anyway, as her music is so relaxing. I suppose the lyrics have been a confort to me, after all the years of abuse I went through, as a child, as a teenager and as an adult. The lyrics are very true with what they say:
"Don't be afraid to be weak Don't be too proud to be strong Just look into your heart my friend That will be the return to yourself The return to innocence
If you want, then start to laugh If you must, then start to cry Be yourself don't hide Just believe in destiny Don't care what people say Just follow your own way Don't give up and use the chance To return to innocence"
The song is actually saying in more ways that one, that you are an indervidual and it doesn't matter what other people think, say or do, you are the one who is in the driving seat of your life and that you should not be bullied into doing something you do not want to do. The lyrics also tell you that you should not be bothered if someone has a bad oppinion of you, as long as you know you are true to yourself and that you should never give in or give up, instead follow your own path in life.
"That's not the beginning of the end That's the return to yourself The return to innocence Don't care what people say Follow just your own way Follow just your own way Don't give in, don't give up To return, to return to innocence."
